Prof. Upul Senarath is enrolled in the Ph.D program at the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.

In addition to being a NIHR Academy member, Prof. Senarath is a Professor in Community Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, a Board Certified Specialist in Community Medicine, and an expert in Public Health Nutrition. He has over 20 years of experience as a scholar, researcher and an expert in the area of Public Health with special interests in maternal and child health and nutrition. He obtained his MBBS from the Faculty of Medicine and his MSc and MD from Postgraduate Institute of Medicine of the University of Colombo. Prof. Senarath is also the honorary President of the South Asia Infant Feeding Research Network of Sri Lanka. Prof. Senarath is the author of over 65 scientific publications, and over 100 conference presentations. He has also served as a guest editor for two international journals – Food and Nutrition Bulletin and Maternal and Child Nutrition. His awards include the Presidential Awards for Scientific Publications, University of Colombo award for excellence in research, and Australian Leadership Awards fellowships.

His latest research is focused on designing and testing a mHealth nutrition and lifestyle intervention to reduce risk of cardiovascular disease among Sri Lankan adults.
