Dr. Sarker is a physician by training and completed his MBBS degree from Chittagong Medical College in 2013. After completing his MBBS, he finished his one-year internship at Chittagong Medical College Hospital in Surgery, Medicine, and Gynae & Obs. His public health research career started at the University of Chicago Research, Bangladesh. With this organization, he worked as a ‘Research Medical Officer’ and his primary responsibility was to provide clinical services to the participants of a non-communicable diseases cohort and maintain a database of the participants.

He then worked at BRAC JPGSPH as a ‘Research Medical Officer’. Here he was working as the leader of a 14-member team implementing the data collection activities of a project ‘Understanding the patterns and determinants of health of South Asian People-South Asian biobank’. As the BRAC JPGSPH, the project he worked with is part of a multi-country initiative to strengthen the non-communicable disease surveillance system of Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. His primary job responsibility in this project was to supervise a field team from various backgrounds and skills performing anthropometry, biological sample collection and process, ECG, spirometry, retinal imaging, health and food intake data collection, and primary management of the research participants.
