Dr. Shemankkary Kesavan is a medical professional pursuing a PhD at the University of Colombo, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Clinical Medicine, Diabetes Research Unit under the Global Health Research Unit.

Her research focuses on “NCDs literacy: Evaluation of Policies, Validation of a Measurement Tool, & Implementation of Intervention in Sri Lanka”.

She was awarded a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) scholarship by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India – the High Commission in Colombo, graduated (2010-2015), completed internship in all the medical and surgical departments at Government Medical College & Hospital, Nagpur, Maharashtra, India (2016), & registered Medical Practitioner at Mumbai Medical Council (2017).

She practiced as a Doctor, pre-intern in the Paediatric ward at Lanka Hospital, Colombo (2017-2018). She was employed as a Demonstrator in the departments of Human Biology, Medical Education & Research, and Pathophysiology at the Faculty of Health Care Sciences, Eastern University, Sri Lanka (2018-2021).

She worked as a Clinical Research Assistant at South Asian Clinical Research, Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya (2022) and also served as a Coordinating Research Assistant at the Ministry of Health, Health Promotion Bureau, Sri Lanka, funded by the GHRU, NIHR (2023-2024).
