Dr. Shemankkary Kesavan presented an abstract titled Diabetes and cardiovascular diseases literacy gap in the community: Perspectives of Medical Officers of Health (MOH) in Colombo, Sri Lanka at the Annual Academic Sessions of the Sri Lanka College of Endocrinologists (SLENDO 2025), published in the Sri Lanka Journal of Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Metabolism, (https://slendo.lk/) held in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The poster highlights that diabetes and cardiovascular diseases are significant causes of death in Sri Lanka, yet clinical and community literacy remains limited. MOHs in Colombo highlighted gaps in accessing reliable information, medication adherence, hereditary risk awareness, and emergency response, compounded by misinformation and socioeconomic barriers. Targeted, clinical, and community-focused interventions are needed to improve NCD literacy and care.
